Coming Soon:
A Doctor and Her Daughter’s Journey from Diagnosis to Empowerment
By Dr. Olivia Kessel
Why This Book Matters
“Mummy, do not make me sleep here! I cannot do it!”
Her tear-streaked face, wide with panic. Her fists flailing. Her voice cracking under the weight of desperation. It was midnight, and my daughter, Alexandra, was pleading with me in terror. I stood frozen, helpless—unsure how we had gotten here or how to move forward.
That moment marked the beginning of a journey I did not yet understand—a journey into the world of ADHD.
If you are:
Wondering if your child might have ADHD but struggling to accept it
Waiting (and waiting) for an assessment
Feeling overwhelmed by your child’s behaviour
Navigating a recent diagnosis and unsure what to do next
Searching for answers, tools, or simply hope
You are not alone.
This book is for you.
About the Author
I am Dr. Olivia Kessel—a medical doctor, neurodiverse mother, and host of The SEND Parenting Podcast. I trained at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and began my medical career treating trauma patients in Johannesburg, South Africa.
But no amount of medical training prepared me for parenting my own neurodiverse daughter.
Despite my background, I was blindsided by the reality of ADHD—especially in girls. I wrestled with the stigma, the fear, and the guilt. And through that struggle, I discovered the science, support, and strength we needed.
This is the book I wish I had when our journey began.
